Rolled fiberglass is a flexible rolled fiberglass insulation product in Nairobi that allows for installation on round surfaces in either hot or cold applications. The product consists of bio- soluble glass fibers that are bonded with a thermosetting resin, oriented to provide excellent compressive strength plus flexibility. Rolled fiber glass is suitable for operating temperatures from 1.7ºC to 538ºC. It is available with an ASJ or FSK facing.
Main Features of Rolled Fiberglass
- Available in rolls 48” in width and thicknesses at 1½” and 2”.
- Cost effective alternative for pre-formed pipe insulation for use on varying diameter pipes.
- The continuous blanket easily wraps tanks, vessels, and large diameter pipes along with irregular shaped objects without thermal efficiency lost.
- Low thermal conductivity compared to segmented products.
- Available with ASJ and FSK facing.
- Controls heat lost or gain
Applications of Fiberglass Insulation
Fiberglass insulation usage in Kenya and through East African countries like Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan has become popular in the last decade. Previously, fiberglass was mainly known to make car bodies but today, the insulation application has become more popular.
The following are some of the main applications of fiberglass insulation in most African countries:
Office buildings: Due to rapid industrialization in the African countries like Kenya, most offices are places that are noisy. Therefore, fiberglass insulation blankets are used to as soundproofing materials. Additionally, offices that are in places that face extreme weather conditions such as hot areas or cold areas are insulated using fiberglass to ensure they are kept warm during the cold weather or cool during the hot days.
Entertainment places: Clubs and other entertainment places have loud noises which may not be good for the neighborhoods. Fiberglass insulation comes as the choice material in soundproofing these places to its high acoustic efficiency and relatively low costs compared to the other available options. Even matatus in Kenya are known to use fiberglass insulation to keep the loud music from disturbing other motorists.
Boiler insulation: Most steam boilers used in food industries use fiberglass blankets as the primary insulation material due to the low costs and effective thermal insulation. It is also light in weight making suitable to use in steam pipe lagging.
Barbecues, pizza ovens: Pizza Ovens and barbecues among other domestic ovens get very hot which can lead to injuries to the users. Fiberglass insulation comes in handy as insulation material due to the excellent thermal insulation properties and durability.
Chimney insulation: Chimneys of kilns, incinerators, ovens etc. get quite hot which is very dangerous to the users. Fiberglass insulation is therefore a suitable choice for such applications.
Incinerators and Kilns: Incinerators and kilns that have temperature ranges below 600ºC use fiberglass blankets as their material of choice in thermal insulation. It is highly effective and low cost compared to other available options like rockwool blankets.
Roof Insulation: Though polyethylene foam insulation is mainly use for roof sisalation in Kenya and East Africa, fiberglass insulation has become very popular nowadays due to is excellent heat insulation especially on the rise of container houses.
The above are not just the only application of fiberglass application in the tropical areas, there are lots of other uses in areas that require Heat insulation or sound insulation.
